Here's is how to apply for your tax return.

The person who qualifies for SARS tax return is someone who have overpaid a total tax liability through PAYE deductions or provisional payments during a tax year. For example, When your employer deducts too much PAYE because your income changed or you only worked part of the tax year. Or when you contribute to a registered retirement annuity or it can even be your pension fund that reduced your taxable income.

Ensure you have all required documents that will be required from you. Like IRP5 or IT3(a) which is to be given to you by your employer.  Sometimes even medical aid certificate and Retirement annuity fund certificate. Once you have all documents necessary, you can log into your profile on SARS efiling or the official mobile app.

When you're into the portal, navigate to  "Returns" and choose 'Returns issued", then click on personal income tax (ITR12). Select the year you're applying for your tax return for, Then click on "Request Return", if it would not be already on screen.

Then you will have to click "Refresh data", which will ask you some questions about income, medical or deductions details. After that, You'll have to confirm that all your banking info are correct, then click submit to submit your tax return application.
